História do Slipknot
O estado de Iowa, conhecido por criação de porcos e produção de milhos, surgia o Slipknot. Essa banda foi formada por noves integrantes que usavam máscaras surrealistas e uniformes industriais vermelhos ou brancos, feitos por eles próprios. A intenção deles era passar como se fossem uma entidade anônima, onde ninguém se importasse com suas pessoas, nem nomes ou rostos, só com a música. O som era uma mistura de Hip Hop e Death Metal, ou então segundo eles "L.A. Neo-Metal". O Slipknot se conheceu em um lugar chamado "Runaway", o único lugar da cidade que aceitava música pesada. Juntando os integrantes da banda de thrash local chamada "Body Pit" (Paul e o Mick) com os da banda "Motividius" (Shawn, Joey e o Craig) nasceu o SlipKnoT, que em pouco tempo já estava tocando aos domingos no Runaway.

O Slipknot começou a tocar no bar "Safari", que mais tarde foi adquirido por Shawn. Um tempo depois, eles encontraram Corey Taylor, que trabalhava num sex shop no centro da cidade natal deles, Des Moines. Conseguiram definir a seguinte formação: Sid Wilson (DJ), Joey Jordison (bateria), Paul Gray (baixo), Chris Fehn e Shawn Crahan (percussão), James Root e Mick Thomson (guitarras), Craig Jones (samplers) e Corey Taylor (vocais). A partir disso, eles gravaram seu primeiro álbum independente, chamado "Mate Feed Kill Repeat".

Com a ajuda de Ross Robinson (produtor do Sepultura, KoRn, Limp Bizkit), a banda conseguiu um contrato com a gravadora Roadrunner. Após disso gravaram no Estúdio Indigo Ranch (Malibu), o segundo álbum chamado "Slipknot". O disco mistura vocais limpos e gritados, guitarras muito pesadas, passagens clean aliadas a samplers e percussão primitiva. Só nos Estados Unidos a banda vendeu cem mil cópias do álbum em apenas quatro semanas.
